What you really need to consider before baby arrives
I’ve worked with pregnant women and moms for 8 years now and through all the 100’s of clients I’ve had, these are the top things I’ve heard moms say are some of the most important to have in the house for when babe arrives.
FOR MOM & BABE:
Nursing bras (no tight sports bras! Cause clogged ducts which can lead to mastitis, a painful infection)
Breast pump – can you get one covered by insurance? Many hospitals also rent them out.
Infant sleep pad (amazing for transitioning babe from parent to parent or from holding to their sleeping situation without waking. Game changer!)
Dockatot (my clients have had this in the bed with them in the early days then moved it to a mattress on the ground in their room or a bassinet. Eventually took the whole thing to the crib in other room.)
Infant activity ‘gym’ – Montossori based but wood is awesome and the items are interchangeable as they grow. Plus it’s pretty. 😉
Tactical baby gear diaper bags – tons of storage, look badass.
Bottles – try different nipples to see what babe likes best when you’re getting ready for Topher to start taking over some feedings. I’ve had clients with partner’s who took the 1/2am feeding so mom could sleep from 10/11pm until 4am, they still might have gotten up to pump because boobs are full. But they don’t have to worry about a fussy baby/getting babe back to sleep/etc. I think they started introducing bottles around the 4 month mark for dad to take over some feedings
Newborn disposable diapers
Newborn and 1-6 mo reuseable diapers
Awesome diaper laundry detergent
baby nail clippers
baby hand mittens (they get wild and scratch themselves sometimes!)
Baby carriers (look to borrow or purchase used as they’re expensive and you don’t know what you’ll like or what baby will like)
FOR HOME:
Orange light bulbs for any where you’ll need light during the night time. (Night stand, baby’s room, hallway, bathroom) You don’t want to turn on normal lights, it’ll be too stimulating to everyone.
Black out curtains for your room and baby’s room (once they’re sleeping in there)
White noise machine for your room and baby’s room (once they’re sleeping in there). Portable is nice because I’ve had mom’s put it in the stroller when they’re working out to keep baby asleep.
